It lowers defenses.
It signals humility.
It shows you're here to listen, not lecture.
It works because it shifts the conversation from debate to dialogue.
It tells the other person: You don’t have to brace yourself—I’m not here to win, I’m here to understand.
That’s how hard conversations become human ones.
